  THE INAUGURATION OF THE VIRTUAL FAIR ARTÍCULA

The Virtual Fair Artícula, at the web address www.articula.cat, opens its doors next week, 15th July.

The fair, Artícula, promoted by the Gremi de Galeries d’Art de Catalunya (Guild of Catalan Art Galleries, GCAG; www.galeriescatalunya.com), aspires to serve as an internet showcase of Catalan Art for an international audience. It will bring awareness and recognition to the associated galleries and simultaneously energize this sector of art in the Catalonia.

The Virtual Fair Artícula is a dynamic showcase, in which the associated gallery members of the GCAG, as well as artists who decide to promote their work, can participate in a permanent or temporary manner.

At the moment of its inauguration, 66 galleries from the entirety of Catalonia participate in the fair, representing 511 artists –as many indigenous as international– and more than one thousand works, grouped to present the great offering of the Catalan art market: from the avant-garde of the 20th century –Picasso, Miró, Dalí,...–, passing through contemporary artists already consecrated –Miquel Barceló, Tàpies,...– and arriving to new tendencies of the 21st century. Artícula presents itself through the internet, an enthusiast of art, offering a wide and eclectic works, helping to guide visitors to those galleries which interest them most.

The Virtual Fair Artícula is a project that has developed during the breadth of 2007, practically dominating the initiative of the current board of directors. With the era of e-technological expansion and the definitive development of Catalonia as a tourist destination, the GCAG understood the necessity to initiate a project of this type. Artícula must serve as a showcase to inform visiting tourists as well as the local public, a device that brings art into one’s home, a preview of a gallery visit. Finally, the ultimate task of Artícula is to encourage the public to visits these galleries in person, so as to better know the original works presented in exhibitions.
